APOEL coach Ivan Jovanovic was overjoyed that his side are through to the Champions League quarter-final stage after defeating Olympique Lyonnais in the penalty shootout.

A first-half goal from Gustavo Manduca allowed APOEL to level the tie at 1-1, before they became the first Cypriot club to reach the competition's quarter-finals with a 4-3 victory on penalties.

"This is the most important night in APOEL's history," Jovanovic told Uefa.com. "This is a big night for APOEL, the fans and Cypriot football

"We never believed that we would be where we are today. But when you have players with so much confidence, then it is possible.

"When you have a stadium filled with fans like ours, then it is possible. This is fantastic for everyone.

"The victory belongs to the players and the fans. We have worked hard for this. Nothing makes you happier than seeing so many people rejoice from your achievement.

"I am delighted to have helped the APOEL fans enjoy such moments."

APOEL are one of the four clubs who have already booked a place in the quarter-final stage, along with AC Milan, Benfica and Barcelona.
