Agent: Mario Gomez is closing in on three-year extension with Bayern Munich

The 26-year-old and his club are nearing an agreement over a new deal that will see the player remain in Bavaria until 2016, according to his representative

The agent of Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has revealed that his client is close to extending his stay at the Allianz Arena.

Speaking with Kicker, Uli Ferber explained that it is only a matter of time before the Germany international and the club reach an agreement.

"We are well on our way," he said.

Gomez, whose previous contract was set to expire in June 2013, is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year deal that will extend his stay until at least 2016.

Ferber did not comment on the player's expected earnings, but a previous report claimed that Bayern would pay Gomez as much as €9 million per season.

The 26-year-old is currently joint-top scorer in the Bundesliga alongside Schalke's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, having found the net 18 times. In all competitions, Gomez has scored 80 times since moving to Munich in 2009.
